GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials with the Port of Green Bay say the port’s tonnage in the month of May came in at 53% below last year’s pace.
According to a release, the 53% lower pace from last year is said to be driven by later seeing higher surges in key commodities towards the end of the season.
Lower tonnage volume of key commodities like petroleum products, coal, limestone and salt reflects the moderated demand and shipment pacing across the region. Wood pulp, however, is 342% higher than last year. We are still seeing the impacts of additional shipments of salt and coal from last year, along with typical year-to-year shifts in commodity availability, affecting coal and limestone.
