FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – In June, Fond du Lac opened its first brewery in over 80 years. Fond du Lac Beer Company has been open for three weeks and has already brought in tons of people from around the community.
“It was very important to us that we created a brewery that Fond du Lac could claim as its own,” owner Michael Leb said.

In the 1930s, Wisconsin had over 80 breweries, but none of Fond du Lac’s breweries survived due to Prohibition and the impact of commercial breweries.
Leb said the main thing residents in Fond du Lac felt was missing was a brewery.
“We have been hearing for so many years, ‘how come Fond du Lac does not have a brewery?'” Leb said. “We were the largest city in Wisconsin without a brewery.”
Community members have flocked to the location, some even making it a daily visit.
“I come here almost every day and it’s funny, because I am not a beer drinker,” Fond du Lac resident Steve Leaman said. “The community support for this has just been incredible since day one.”
The brewery aims to be a staple in both the community and the greater Wisconsin area. Executive Director Amy Krupp with the Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership said it will be a destination spot.
“It’s a regional destination,” Krupp said. “The people coming are from all over the region. It has just become a great addition to our downtown district.”
