MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – After Governor Tony Evers announced on Thursday morning that he would not be seeking re-election for a third term, a familiar face to Wisconsinites made some noise on social media.
Former Gov. Scott Walker, who served as the 45th Governor of Wisconsin and as Evers’ predecessor, made several cryptic and potentially foreshadowing posts on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account on Thursday morning.

The former Gov. Walker posted an image of President Donald Trump’s famous Make America Great Again hat, with the focus on the 45-47 on the side, captioning the post ‘Interesting…’ which added uncertainty and cryptic tones to the posts.
Later, the former Gov. Walker posted a handful of photos, one of a red hat similar to Pres. Trump’s Make America Great Again hats; however, this one read ‘Make Wisconsin Great Again’ with the numbers 45-47 on the side.
If former Gov. Walker did decide to run again and he won, he would be the 47th Governor of Wisconsin, similarly to Pres. Trump being the 45th and 47th President of the United States.
Former Gov. Walker served in the role from January 2011 until January 2019 in an eventful governorship that saw him beocme the first governor in United States history to beat a recall election in 2012. He also ran for President, participating in the 2016 Republican Primary.
As his presidential campaign ended just two months after primaries started, former Gov. Walker sought a third term in the 2018 gubernatorial election, which he lost to then-Superintendent of Public Instruction Evers in a tight race by roughly 1.1%, according to the New York Times.
Former Gov. Walker was at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where he spoke about then-Senate candidate Eric Hovde’s status as a Wisconsinite. However, the former governor never explicitly said anything about any future political plans of his own.
If former Gov. Walker truly decided to run, he would face at least two currently known Republican candidates, with Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann and Milwaukee-area businessman Bill Berrien already declared.
Another post on Thursday morning from the former governor showed him at his desk during his terms expressing that he was honored to have served in his position.

Former Gov. Walker currently serves as the president of Young America’s Foundation, which says on its website that it is the leading organization for young conservatives.
So, while it’s not clear if former Gov. Walker is truly considering another run at the highest office in the state, his cryptic posts have garnered attention from many especially given the timing.
