GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Soon, bells will be ringing in the halls of area schools, as the 2025-26 school year is right around the corner, and schools all around the country are facing a teaching shortage.
“The goal is to get as many positions filled as possible, so that we can have a good start to the school year,” says Green Bay Area Public School District (GBAPS) Director of Recruitment Mai Vang. “And also an opportunity for our staff to connect with our community, build relationships, and let them know what we are working on this year.”

The district is looking to round out their staff, and make sure that they have the right educators placed in front of the year, and want to ensure every student gets their best opportunities when in school.
“The biggest needs right now would be special education, speech language pathologists, and we also have some interesting one-off positions such as art teacher, and family and consumer science,” says Vang.
Substitute teachers are also some of the bodies the district is always looking for, but wants to make sure they have the teachers staffed to not have to rely on having long-term subs.
“When you have to do long-term subs, or things like that, it can hinder some things for students, but what I think we do the most, we support our staff, so really coaching them and helping them get comfortable even if they are a long-term sub,” says Lisa Lipp, Principal at Green Bay East High School.

On Wednesday, the District held its 3rd Walk-In Career Fair, allowing community members to come and learn what they are up to, and even learn more about becoming an educator.
“We need to put good people in front of our kids, right we need really good canidates to be infront to be there for their first day of school, and so that we are prepared to provide good instruction, good support for our students, so this is a really good opportunity to just kind of widen our opprotunity to find multpile candidates in many different areas,” says Lipp.
