GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Early Monday morning, instead of heading to their day jobs, four nurses made their way to Paul’s Pantry to volunteer.
The American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA) has a “Feed Your Kidneys” program, aimed at giving back to local pantries and making sure that everyone has access to healthy food options.

“We have this initiative every fall called Feed Your Kidneys, where we partner with local food pantries, and give back to the community and try to get more food to the pantries that are very kidney-friendly,” said Bridget Guerndt, a nephrology nurse and member of ANNA.
Paul’s Pantry has had a massive impact on the community, and organizers say it was a no-brainer to volunteer with an organization that has such deep roots in the area.
“Paul’s Pantry has a long-standing history within the community, and so ironically, the nurses association through NWTC has volunteered for many years,” said ANNA member and nursing teacher Katie Feldner.
Volunteering brings together people who share a common goal: providing healthy eating options for all.
“It ties in really well with nephrology — eating healthy, having a proper diet,” said Craig Robbins, executive director at Paul’s Pantry.
While volunteering, customers were able to interact with the nurses and ask questions about what foods they should be eating and what healthy habits they should be getting into.

“The nurses coming in today is fantastic. They are helping fill needs that we have. We have a small staff, so we’re able to do what we do because of them,” Robbins said.
