MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) – A 21-year-old man was shot by a Milwaukee Police Department officer during a foot pursuit on Wednesday night.
Officers with the Milwaukee Police Department say that just before 11:30 p.m. on September 17, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1200 block of West Greenfield Avenue.

During the traffic stop, the driver got out of the vehicle and reportedly began to flee on foot. During the foot pursuit, the suspect allegedly ignored officers’ commands to stop.
Shortly after, officers say the suspect dropped a firearm. While allegedly trying to retrieve the gun, a Milwaukee PD officer discharged their firearm, hitting the suspect.
The suspect, a 21-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries.
Officers recovered the suspect’s gun. He was arrested, and criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

The officer who shot the suspect, a 26-year-old man with over six years of service, was placed on administrative duty.
The Milwaukee Police Homicide Unit will be investigating this incident, which is described as a ‘fluid and ongoing’ investigation.
