(WFRV) – As a part of next week’s ‘Operation Safe Stop Week,’ officials with the Wisconsin State Patrol say they will be partnering with the Wisconsin School Bus Association.
According to a release on social media, special patrols will take place starting next week throughout the Badger State as a way to help educate drivers on the dangers of illegally passing stopped school buses with their flashing red lights activated.

Troopers, supported by data from the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services, say that each day more than 67,000 vehicles illegally pass school buses throughout the country.
We’re grateful for the longstanding partnership with the Wisconsin School Bus Association and drivers of school buses who go above and beyond to ensure the safety of students and other motorists on the road. It’s important that every driver understands the rules of the road and is alert behind the wheel, especially near school buses.
Wisconsin State Patrol Superintendent Tim Carnahan
Officials are reminding drivers that illegally passing a school bus not only endangers the lives of students, but can also result in a fine of an estimated $500-$1,000.
