ELK MOUND, Wis. (WFRV) – On Thursday, a woman who reportedly had mobility issues was killed during a house fire in western Wisconsin.
The Dunn County Sheriff’s Office stated in a release that dispatch got a call reporting a house on fire with a person trapped inside around 12:55 p.m. on October 16.
Both the Sheriff’s Office and the Elk Mound Fire Department immediately responded to the home in the E9000 block of Elk Mound’s 570th Avenue after getting word that the trapped woman had mobility issues.

Shortly after, dispatch received another call from a delivery driver who had passed by the home and stated that it was fully engulfed in flames. The delivery driver reportedly attempted to go into the home and rescue the woman but had to turn around due to the heavy flames and smoke.
Law enforcement was also not able to enter the home as multiple fire departments worked for several hours to put out the fire.
Once the fire was out, the woman was found dead inside the home.
The cause and origin remain under investigation. No additional details were provided.
