MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – Three children got a furry surprise from their mother and the Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity on Saturday morning.

Alexis Schultz is a single mother with an 11-year-old, a 10-year-old and a 5-year-old, and just a few years ago, she was able to get assistance from Habitat for Humanity to purchase a new home at an affordable rate.
On Saturday morning, she took her kids to the Fox Cities Habitat office in Menasha, and little did they know at the time that they’d be leaving with another sibling—a four legged one.
Alexis, through the assistance of Fox Cities Habitat, surprised her kids with 11-month-old Drake, a Lab/Shepherd mix from a local shelter.
According to a release, the idea for the moment came from not just Habitat’s mission to provide affordable housing to those in need, but also to grant meaningful moments in life through homeownership.
“Alexis and her family have put in the work, but the kids have always wanted a dog,” VP of Philanthropy and Donor Relations Amy McGowan said in a release. “It was one of the biggest parts of homeownership that they were excited about.”
Alexis said in the release that she was excited to help fulfill her kids’ dreams, while also continuing to work with Habitat for Humanity, where she continues to give back with time and effort.
“It’s the little things that make this experience so rewarding and I am excited to be able to continue seeing my kids’ faces light up with yet another piece of homeownership, having a pet,” Alexis said via the release.
