LUDINGTON, Mich. (WFRV) – The historic S.S. Badger has resumed operations after it sustained damage while contacting the S.S. Spartan while docking in Michigan on Wednesday evening.
Officials with the S.S. Badger stated on September 17 that it had sustained damage to a stern sea gate after coming into contact with the permanently moored S.S. Spartan in the Ludington Harbor around 6:50 p.m. that same day.

The contact happened while the S.S. Badger was docking, and no injuries to any passengers aboard the Badger occurred.
“The extent of the damage to the SS Badger’s sea gate is currently being assessed by marine engineers to determine the necessary repairs and to ensure the vessel’s continued safe operation,” officials stated in a Facebook post on Wednesday night.

“We are grateful that no one was harmed in this incident,” said Thom Hawley from Lake Michigan Carferry. “The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority. We are working with the relevant authorities to investigate the cause of this collision and to implement any necessary preventative measures.”
It was also stated that the ferry service between Ludington, Michigan, and Manitowoc, Wisconsin, was planned to resume at 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 18.
