Appleton celebrates Houdini’s birthday with magic and festivities

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – The City of Appleton marked the birthday of the legendary magician, Harry Houdini, on Monday, honoring the man who claimed Appleton as his hometown despite being born in Hungary.

The Appleton Library hosted several magicians to celebrate the occasion, showcasing live performances to the public.

“A lot of people today, the only time they’ve seen a magician is on television,” said Rick Morein of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. “A lot of people never get to see a magician live, so we’re trying to change that, and today is part of that.”

Houdini, who would have turned 151 years old, was remembered for his contributions to the world of magic and his connection to Appleton.
