APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – From Thursday, April 3 until Sunday, April 6, over 500 people will compete at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center in Appleton to be crowned a world champion in axe throwing and/or knife throwing.
The World Axe Throwing League (WATL) and World Knife Throwing League (WKTL) said that they’ve awarded more than 500 bids for the competition, as throwers from 35 states, and four different countries will compete for titles in multiple disciplines:
- Standard Knife
- Knife Duals
- Hatchet Duals
- Hatchet
- Big Axe

Five of the 500+ competitors are the reigning world champions, and 28 are from Wisconsin.
“We’re excited to come back to Appleton for this year’s World’s,” WATL Commissioner Sarah Sed said via release. “The throwers are looking forward to some intense competition against the best throwers in the world.”

The competitions kick off on Thursday, April 3, with Knife Duals at 4 p.m. Friday, April 4, will kick off the Standard Knife Throwing set at 8:30 a.m. as the Standard Hatchet competitions will begin at 1 p.m. the same day.

The Big Axe throwing event on Saturday, April 5, at 8:30 a.m., followed by the Hatchet Duals at 3 p.m. The Finals will kick off on Sunday on the WATL and WKTL YouTube Channels for live-streaming, as competition begins at noon with doors opening an hour prior.
