Brown County officials raise awareness of homelessness in Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials in Brown County are bringing attention to homelessness in the city, with the Brown County Homeless and Housing Coalition hosting a meeting on Wednesday with state and national advocates.

The event aimed to raise awareness of the growing issue of homelessness in Green Bay and throughout Brown County. Advocates discussed statistics that mirror trends across the United States, highlighting the challenges of affordable housing and the increasing need for mental health and substance addiction services.

“When you’re dealing with the affordable housing crisis throughout the country, that’s contributing a lot, and on the St. John’s side, we see a lot of mental health and substance addiction that really wasn’t mentioned too much, but I believe that’s driving a lot of the issues,” said Jesse Burnette, St. John’s Ministries Executive Director.

Local 5’s Tom Zalaski spoke with St. John’s Ministries about the services they provide. You can find the full interview on Newsmaker Sunday.
