Cat dies in Wisconsin house fire, family escapes safely

PELICAN, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Wisconsin say a Monday afternoon house fire led to the death of a family cat.

According to a release from the Pine Lake Fire Rescue, firefighters responded just before 4:00 p.m. to a reported house fire on Riverbend Road in the Town of Pelican.

Officials on the scene say heavy fire could be seen coming from the main level of a single-story home with a walkout basement.

Additional fire crews were called in as firefighters worked on an interior fire attack on both levels of the home. After extinguishing the fire, the home was said to be heavily damaged from fire, water, and smoke.

Officials report that the family was able to escape the fire safely, however, the family’s cat did not survive the fire.
