FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – Fire crews in Fond du Lac quickly contained a kitchen fire Tuesday morning on the 100 block of 14th Street.
The fire was reported shortly after 10:45 a.m., and when firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the rear of the residence. Upon entry, crews located the source of the fire in the kitchen area near the stove and were able to extinguish it before it caused significant damage.

While the home sustained moderate fire damage and extensive smoke damage, no serious injuries were reported. The residents, who were inside the home at the time, were alerted to the fire by the smell of smoke and safely evacuated. They were evaluated on scene for possible smoke inhalation by paramedics.
“If the resident was not alert and investigated the smell of smoke immediately, the outcome of this situation may have turned out much differently,” said Fire Chief Erick Gerritson. “Early detection of fire is key to survivability when dealing with house fires, and the best means to do that is by having smoke detectors on every floor of your home.”
