Green Bay Southwest High School retires first-ever athletic jersey

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials with the Green Bay Southwest High School say they will be honoring alumna and WNBA star Natisha Hiedeman with the first-ever jersey retirement in school history.

According to a release from the Green Bay Area Public School District, Hiedeman was selected as the number 18 overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx and traded to the Connecticut Sun in a draft-day trade.

After playing in 150 games and making 80 career starts for the Sun while averaging 7.4 points per game, 2.4 assists per game, 1.9 rebounds, and shooting nearly 40% from three, she was traded back to Minnesota in 2024.

Prior to her time in the WNBA, Hiedeman was a highly sought-after college prospect who earned multiple honors including the following:

  • Big East All-Freshman (2015-2016)
  • Unanimous BIG EAST Player of the Year (2018-19)
  • Unanimous All-BIG EAST First-Team (2018-19)
  • All-American Honorable Mention Honoree (2018-19)
  • Nancy Lieberman Award Candidate (2018-19)

During her time at Green Bay South West, officials say Hiedeman was the Green Bay metro area’s leading scorer in 2015 when she averaged 25.6 points per game as a senior and finished the year with 1,773 points.

Hiedeman was said to have racked up several accolades throughout her high school career at Green Bay Southwest including the following:

  • AP 1st Team All-State honors
  • FRCC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors
  • WBCA Division 2 All-State First Team honors
  • WSN Top Senior Shooter Award

She also ranks second on the all-time scoring list at Green Bay Southwest even while being a multi-sport athlete as she also is a 9-time WIAA state qualifier in track and field, the 2014 state triple jump champions, and a state tournament qualifier in tennis during her senior year.

Green Bay Southwest High School officials are said to be planning a jersey retirement ceremony that will be open to the public on Thursday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m. in the Carl Sunby Gymnasium inside Southwest High School on 331 Packerland Drive.

Hiedeman is the first jersey to be retired in school history and her jersey will remain on display going forward in the rafters of the gym.
