(WFRV) – A part-time firefighter in Brown County was placed on administrative leave after being arrested and charged with 15 felonies for possessing child pornography.
Brenton Egtvedt, 43, who works for the Village of Howard Fire Department, was arrested on April 9 after authorities stopped him leaving his residence, according to the criminal complaint filed by the Brown County District Attorney’s Office.
Dennis Staeven, fire chief of Howard Fire/Rescue told Local 5 that Egtvedt was immediately placed on administrative leave from the department after his arrest.
Authorities reportedly received multiple cyber tips between March 2024 and October 2024 regarding images and videos containing child pornography. The complaint said the information obtained revealed that the IP addresses used to upload allegedly pornographic material were from Egtvedt’s address.
Egtvedt, in an interview, admitted to detectives that he owned the email addresses cited. Egtvedt told investigators he felt he had an addiction to both adult and child pornography, the complaint said.
When asked if he understood that child pornography was illegal, Egtvedt reportedly responded with ‘Yes, yes, I understand… I’m pretty much screwed.,’ the complaint said
All 15 felonies Egtvedt is facing are listed as possession of child pornography, punishable with up to 25 years in prison.
Court records show Egtvedt is scheduled to be back in court on June 9 for a status conference. Cash bond was set at $50,000.
