Johnsonville issues recall for cheddar bratwurst distributed in Wisconsin, possibly contaminated with hard plastic

(WFRV) – The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on Tuesday that Johnsonville, LLC has issued a recall of 22,672 pounds of one of its cheddar bratwurst products, some of which were sold in Wisconsin.

According to the USDA release, the product may be contaminated with foreign materials, specifically citing hard plastics. The specific cheddar bratwurst was produced on February 5.

19-oz. Sealed firm tray packages containing five pieces of “Johnsonville BRATS CHEDDAR Bratwurst” and the package code B9FOD.

The recalled product was shipped to retailers in ten states, including Wisconsin. The other states were:

  • Georgia
  • Indiana
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Ohio
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia

A firm reported that two complaints were filed regarding the presence of hard plastic material in the bratwurst. No reported injuries have been reported, but anybody concerned should contact health officials.

The product should be immediately thrown away or returned to the original site of the purchase.
