Lawrence baseball to host conference tournament, eyeing program’s second title in last four years

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – After a lengthy hiatus from playing in the Midwest conference tournament, Lawrence baseball has clinched vying winning the regular season title on three occasions over the last four seasons. That includes winning the tourney in 2022.

This year, the Vikings are hosting the tournament once again, seeking to avenge their semifinal exit after last season’s historic campaign. Lawrence finished the year 31-11, but couldn’t punch its ticket to the NCAA tournament.

Top-seeded Lawrence wasn’t always destined for that spot though. After Chris Krepline left for a job at the University of Cincinnati, his longtime assistant Trent Whitcomb took the over his post as the interim head coach. The new reign started with a 7-10 record before the Vikings won 13 of their final 20 regular season games.

MWC tournament play starts with Lawrence hosting Grinnell College at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
