Lightning strike causes fire and external damage to apartment building in Wisconsin, person rescued from elevator

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – A lightning strike around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday caused external damage and some flames on the top of an apartment building in Wisconsin along with an electrical power outage.

According to the Madison Fire Department, multiple 911 calls came in around 8:30 a.m. reporting a lightning strike at 9411 Modern Point Lane, and firefighters at nearby Station 12 also confirmed that they saw a large lightning strike before dispatch.

No injuries were reported; however, there were several occupants inside at the time of it, with one person trapped in an elevator due to a power outage likely caused by the strike. Firefighters safely rescued the person.

56 units are in the complex, but now all are occupied. Property managers are reportedly working with residents to find accommodations until repairs can be made and power is restored.
