GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Happy Hour is right around the corner in Green Bay’s Shipyard District as a new cocktail bar is celebrating its grand opening on Friday afternoon.
“There’s a lot of people asking are you excited, are you nervous, and my best response is that I’m ready,” said the owner of the new establishment Don Mjelde. “There’s a lot of change that has been brought to the building and we’re excited to show it off to the community.”
The new establishment, appropriately dubbed Happy Hour, opened its doors on 813 South Broadway at 2 p.m. on March 21. The grand opening began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and brief remarks by district officials and Mjelde.

Happy Hour hosted a soft opening earlier this week and thanked everyone who helped “pop the top” on its new venture.
“It’s new small businesses like Happy Hour which attract dollars to our district, contribute to a revitalized riverside corridor, and create a true downtown destination,” said Tarl Knight, director of Shipyard District, Inc. “Thanks to proprietors like Mjelde and his continued reinvestment in our district, South Broadway continues to shine with a standout variety of food and drink offerings for locals and visitors alike.”

Mjelde also currently owns and operates Richard Craniums on South Broadway. He said his goal for ‘Happy Hour’ was to create a cocktail bar with a Wisconsin tavern atmosphere.
He said it was important for them to open up ahead of the NFL Draft coming to town.
“It’ll probably be something that Green Bay has never seen before, said Mjelde. “I think we’re all getting very prepared for it. We can’t wait to integrate all those people into this community and show them what Green Bay is about. That we have great, responsible beverage-serving taverns in the area that take great care of people.”
