National Weather Service confirms tornado in Shawano County after late night storms

MATTOON, Wis. (WFRV) – The National Weather Service confirmed at least one tornado in northeast Wisconsin due to the severe storms that swept across the state on Monday.

A preliminary report from around 11:40 a.m. confirmed that the tornado happened around 10:04 p.m. in Mattoon.

On Tuesday morning, teams conducted thorough drive-through inspections and damage assessments. A majority of the damage was reportedly concentrated in Mattoon.

Several homes suffered damage, primarily to roofs and siding. Downed trees also damaged power lines and utility poles. A dug out located at the local softball field was heavily damaged.

Multiple Alliant Energy crews responded early Tuesday morning, actively working in the area. Full power restoration is expected to commence this evening.

All roads have been reopened and are passable, except those temporarily closed by Alliant Energy to facilitate ongoing electrical repairs.

An update from the National Weather Service said the tornado was an EF0 with maximum wind speeds of 80 miles per hour. Nobody was reported injured or killed, and the tornado lasted about eight minutes, coming down at 10:02 p.m. and ending at 10:10 p.m.
