WAUPUN, Wis. (WFRV) – A driver who reportedly crossed the center line of Highway 26 and collided head-on with a commercial vehicle died at the scene early Saturday morning, and deputies believe alcohol to have been a factor.
According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch started to get multiple 911 calls around 1:45 a.m. on March 1 that were reporting a crash on Highway 26 near Neitman Road in Waupun.
A preliminary investigation showed that a vehicle southbound on Highway 26 crossed over the centerline and hit a northbound commercial vehicle head-on.

Deputies say that it was reported the southbound vehicle was unable to maintain its lane before the crash. In the release, deputies noted that alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
The driver of the southbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the commercial vehicle was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, where they were treated and released.
Highway 26 was closed between CTH-TC and Highway 151 for roughly four hours to investigate the incident.
The City of Waupun Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Waupun County Fire Department, Lifestar Emergency Medical Service, and the Fond du Lac County Highway Department were among the assisting agencies.
