Warm front brings stronger storms to end the week

The latest Northeast Wisconsin weather forecast from Storm Team 5…

A southeast wind continued on today, which brought in warmer temps this afternoon. Consequently, a higher fire risk is likely this evening with the warm temps and dry air in place. Still try to avoid burning if possible!

High pressure to our east kept us quiet and sunny again today. Low pressure, however, is sitting to our west and as it continue to move eastward, this will bring a pretty strong storm to the Midwest by tomorrow.

A strong warm front will lift ahead of this storm bringing in widespread warmth for most of the country, which will provide the fuel needed to see stronger storms. The worst of the storm looks to sit into Central IL and Eastern MO with still the chance to see some rotation in storm cells in further into southwestern WI.

Here for us, it’s not likely that we will see tornadoes (still a chance, but not likely), but we will likely see stronger thunderstorms with our primary impact being gusty winds. Winds will gust to about 30-40mph for most of Friday, with gusts then getting to closer to 40-50mph for many areas by Saturday afternoon.

Light sprinkles will develop areas north this evening, with a round of rain and thunderstorms tomorrow morning. We then get some quiet time tomorrow afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds.

By bedtime tomorrow evening, we are still quiet, but quickly after rain and thunderstorms will move in from the southwest. Once Saturday morning actually begins, things should slowly quiet down and thunderstorms will turn to rounds of rain.

As this storm system moves eastward Saturday, the worst of the severe weather will stretch from Louisiana to Alabama, meaning this storm will be on its’ way out for us.

However, behind this system, a cold front will drop through cooling us off by almost 30 degrees compared from Saturday to Sunday’s highs, turning and rain left to light snow.
