Weight restrictions for northern Wisconsin highways set to end as spring approaches

(WFRV) – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is reminding motorists that Spring Thaw Class II and Posted Road restrictions for 15 counties of Zone 1 are ending.

Zone 1 is comprised of the very northern counties of Wisconsin, such as parts of Marinette, Florence, Forest, Oneida, Vilas, Price County, and more. These restrictions will end on Tuesday, April 16, at 12:01 a.m.

Class II roads include about 1,400 miles of state highways that are susceptible to damage from heavy trucks during the spring thaw period as frost leaves the ground.

County highways, town roads, and city and village streets may also be posted or limited to legal load limits or less. Local governments ultimately decide whether to place or lift weight restrictions on those roads.
