West De Pere educator looking to win America’s Favorite Teacher competition

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – An educator in the School District of West De Pere is in the running for America’s Favorite Teacher.

Foreign Language teacher Becky Deeg is currently in a contest to appear in Reader’s Digest, win a trip to Hawaii, and take home $25,000 for the outstanding work she’s done inside the classroom at West De Pere.

As a Spanish teacher, Deeg says her favorite part of being an educator is working with the students and building relationships with them.

“Each student is unique and has a different learning style,” Deeg stated. “While some may think this is challenging, I love getting to know my students and meeting each of their unique needs.”

At the time of this article’s publication, Deeg currently sits fourth overall in her group, with the first cuts on Thursday, April 4. Deeg says she plans on taking her family of six on vacation should she win the $25,000.

“I would love to take them to Costa Rica, where I studied abroad, to experience the rich culture and meet my host families,” added Deeg. “Then I would use some of the money for classroom supplies.”

After classroom supplies, Deeg concluded she’d love to donate the remaining funds to the De Pere community by hosting a fundraiser or donating to someone in need.

Those interested in voting for Deeg can cast one vote for free or make a monetary donation, which is good for a vote per dollar.
