Winter Storm Watch: Stronger storm arrives mid-week

The latest Northeast Wisconsin weather forecast from Storm Team 5…

It’s been a day of gusty winds here across Northeast Wisconsin with peak gusts for many of us this afternoon between 30-40mph! These winds did help us warm up as winds today were back out of the south. A warm front is lifting which will continue to push in these southerly winds today and then again into tomorrow, keeping us mild overnight and we will see temps back into the upper 40s and 50s Tuesday.

Now this warm front is associated with our next storm system that move in for us early Wednesday.

First as this warm front lifts keeping temps mild, rain and stronger thunderstorms will move through for the south and eastern half of the state! The Storm Prediction Center has issued an outlook indicating that Eastern IL and Western IN will get the worst of this portion of the system.

Behind this system, a cold front is attached, and as this drops through cooler temps are in store which will allow for heavier snow to develop areas north and west of Green Bay. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for those areas.

Green Bay and through the Fox Valley will likely see fluctuating temperatures on Wednesday making us go back and fourth between rain and snow, and any flakes that do fall will be wet and heavy. We could also see some ice accumulation for these spots.

Eventually this cold front will drop in for everyone, cooling all spots off which will allow for light snow accumulation for most spots overnight Wednesday into Thursday. This front will keep gusty winds around, too.

By Thursday afternoon, we finally turn dry and quiet with more sunshine to finish the day.
