Wisconsin DHS advises tick prevention amid early-season activity

(WFRV) – With spring-like weather starting to arrive in Wisconsin, officials with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services say it’s time to start focusing on tick prevention.

In a post made on social media, DHS officials report that ticks are already active despite not technically being in the spring season.

Multiple adult ticks are said to have already been recently collected from the environment and as the temperatures increase, so will tick activity.

The DHS suggests following these tips to help prevent from being bitten by ticks:

  • Use EPA-registered insect repellents on exposed skin and clothes to prevent tick bites.
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, and tall socks when outdoors.
  • Check for ticks on clothes, gear, and pets after being outdoors.
