MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – A 45-year-old man from Milwaukee was sentenced on Wednesday to five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a fentanyl possession charge in December.
According to U.S. Attorney Timothy O’Shea, who represents the Western District of Wisconsin, Marcus Stokes of Milwaukee was setneced by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley for the charge, as Stokes had over 40 grams of fentanyl with intent to distribute.
Stokes will spend another five years on supervised release for the charge, which he pled guilty to on December 18, 2024. The charge stems from a traffic stop in Monroe County on May 15, in which officials searched his vehicle and found a plastic bag.
The plastic bag under the driver’s seat had three separate bags each carrying more than 90 grams of fentanyl, which Stokes picked up in Milwaukee and planned to deliver it in La Crosse.
Stokes’ sentencing included consideratons from Judge Conley regarding Stokes’ history of spending much of his adulthood in prisons or supervision for drug offenses.

However, Judge Conley weighed it with the recent time of empoyment, concluding that Stokes can turn his life around, but warned that if he returns to a life of drug dealing, he may face an even longer sentence.
