Wisconsin Walgreens evacuated after bomb threat, officers investigating source

MEQUON, Wis. (WFRV) – On Thursday morning, officers were called to a southeastern Wisconsin Walgreens to investigate a bomb threat that was called in by a person demanding money.

According to the Mequon Police Department, an unknown man called the Walgreens on North Port Washington Road to demand money after he claimed to have placed a pipe bomb inside the store.

The call came in around 9:20 a.m. on March 27 from what officers described as a man with a “non-native English accent.”

Officers say the store was immediately evacuated, and the Cedarburg Police Department’s EOD K-9 unit was called in to help clear the building. After a thorough search, no explosives were found, and the threat was determined to be a ‘swatting type incident.’

After all employees were interviewed and the scene was deemed safe, the Walgreens was allowed to reopen.

The Mequon Police Department is actively investigating the incident and stated that two other similar incidents recently occurred at Walgreens locations in Wisconsin.
