FOREST COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – A Wisconsin woman has been charged with stealing more than $95,000 from her elderly father while acting as his guardian.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, 43-year-old Heather Robinson of Laona faces one count of theft in a business setting involving more than $10,000 but less than $100,000—a class G felony and a crime against an elder or disabled person.
Robinson was appointed as her father’s guardian while he resided in a private long-term care nursing facility in Forest County. As part of her responsibilities, she was required to make his rental payments from his account. However, according to the criminal complaint, rent became past due as Robinson attempted to pay with checks that had insufficient funds.
An investigation found that between Sept. 20, 2023, and Oct. 8, 2024, Robinson allegedly stole $95,446.02 from her father’s bank account. Of that amount, $67,102.15 was reportedly used for online gambling.
“The Wisconsin Department of Justice is proud to work to protect seniors from financial harm,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul. “Thank you to those working on the investigation and prosecution of this case.”
